Questions to Ask your Moving Company
There is no shortage of moving companies, but finding a good one can be tricky.
You don't want to trust just anyone with your grandma's heirloom china or your prized collection of records.
You also don't want to end your big moving day with an invoice three times as expensive as you were expecting because of hidden charges.
By asking the right questions, you can make your move stress-free.
Here are some of the questions to consider:
Is the company insured?
While it may seem like common sense for a company to have insurance, many local moving companies do not have coverage that will protect your items if anything is broken or damaged.
What do their rates include?
Choosing the cheapest company may mean there are hidden fees. Make sure the quote includes all fuel charges, labor, insurance, and any additional needs you may have. Find out if there are overtime fees if your move takes longer than expected.
How many crew members will assist in your move?
Two movers may be sufficient for most moves, but if you have heavy or awkward furniture, a large move with lots of items, or a set of stairs that complicates a move, you may need to request additional movers. Remember, this may come at an extra charge so be sure to compare rates.
Is the staff trained?
Even if you have everything boxed up and ready to go, you want your movers to take special care of your items. Find out if they wrap the corners of furniture or measure doorways, stairways, etc, before booking an appointment.
Do they come highly reviewed?
In addition to checking the Better Business Bureau and Yelp for reviews, simply ask the company about their history. If they have a great reputation, they likely have won local awards or can give you references.
While accidents may happen regardless, by asking the right questions, you can find the moving company that is most likely to fit your needs and take care of your belongings.
