Franchisee Spotlight: Jeff Tietjen Of Columbus-Delaware, OH
Jeff Tietjen and his team at College Hunks Hauling Junk in Columbus-Delaware, OH live the company’s purpose of Move The World. When Jeff and his team aren’t busy packing boxes, hauling hot tubs, or moving dressers, they are giving back to their community.
The Columbus-Delaware H.U.N.K.S. try to donate all of the items they haul away. Sometimes items aren’t able to be donated to charities, but they still have life left in them. In these cases, the Columbus-Delaware H.U.N.K.S. keep the items on hand. They partner with local job and family services programs, such as The Common Ground Free Store and Family Promise. When these organizations are able to find a home for people in need, Jeff and his team deliver their stored items to the home for free.
The H.U.N.K.S. donate cloth and tarp-like materials to a local woman who makes sleeping bags for the homeless. They also donate paint to Creative Foundations. This is an organization that works with people with physical and/or mental disabilities. They use the paint to create art to sell. The donation of the paint saves the charity a significant amount of money.
Downtown Delaware has a First Friday event year round with a different theme each month. In the month of May, the event is “Walk a Mile In Her Shoes” to raise awareness of and prevent domestic violence and sexual assault. The Columbus-Delaware H.U.N.K.S. participate in this event every year and wear high heels in their uniform.
Jeff believes that “an organization that grows and prospers within a community, has an obligation to contribute to that community.”
(Note: One of the H.U.N.K.S. didn’t have the right size heel, so he’s wearing his normal shoes.)
