Franchise Training programs cover on-site training, webinars, national networking events and more to support franchisee growth
When College Hunks Hauling Junk co-founders Nick Friedman and Omar Soliman talk to potential franchisees interested in a junk removal or moving franchise, they talk training early and often. And with good reason.
For some franchise operations, “training” means sending a new business owner a manual and maybe a DVD to watch, and that’s it. College Hunks Hauling Junk does much, much more, and that’s why it leads the junk removal franchise and moving franchise industry in terms of service and support for franchisees.
Learning begins before the doors open
“We start working with a franchisee before they come to our headquarters in Tampa, Florida, for training,” Nick explains. “There’s a 100-point pre-training checklist that we work through with them, covering administrative startup tasks, like ordering the trucks, setting up insurance, an initial marketing inventory and more. New franchise owners are assisted with all of their pre-opening steps, plus we provide training material for them to read and watch that will introduce them to topics that will be covered in their training week. Our team is also on the phone with our franchise owners regularly, so we’re working with them throughout the franchise launch process.”
When franchisees arrive in Tampa for new owner training, they get a seven-day deep dive into the junk removal franchise and moving franchise world. The first day involves an introduction to the culture and vision behind the College Hunks Hauling Junk innovative brand, followed by a day shadowing moving and junk removal crews. Then comes a day handling regular office projects, such as dispatching crews and providing estimates. The next two days are spent on sales and marketing strategies to be deployed for the grand opening and beyond, and the last two training days cover the technical side of the moving industry.
“We want to make sure our franchisees not only know how to operate their business, but that they understand the nuances and technical side of the junk removal and moving industries,” Nick says. “But once they graduate from Hunk University, it doesn’t stop there. We have ongoing coaching, training and consulting that include an onsite field visit within the first three months of a franchisee’s opening for business. We also have weekly webinars, weekly president’s bulletins, a monthly town hall conference and video, quarterly state of the union conference calls and an annual conference in Tampa we call our ‘College Reunion.’”
And if that’s not enough, there’s also peer-to-peer mastermind groups facilitated by the Franchise Performance team.
“It’s really a never-ending funnel of training, coaching and communications,” he says. “We are all about helping our franchisees be in business for themselves, not by themselves. We are the wind at their back each step of the way.”
