What Should Be Packed First When Moving?

While this is a simple question, it’s not such a simple answer. The answer will vary based on the needs in each home. At College HUNKS Hauling Junk & Moving, we recommend you create a master moving checklist that will help you have a stress-free move—this is your first step.
Once you have created a moving checklist, we recommend you visually assess each room or space in your home and create an inventory list. Some of these items may be large items that will require special care on moving day such as appliances, pianos, or family heirlooms. Make note of these items, and communicate this to your mover.
After you’ve done this, start to move through each space armed with your packing supplies (boxes, tape, markers, bubble wrap, etc.) and determine which items you will not need between now and moving day. Those are the items that should be packed first when moving. You can begin checking off items that you know you won’t need and set these boxes aside.
As you move from room to room, you may find that you have items that require special packaging. Taking the time to properly pack and label your special items ahead of time will ensure a smooth move. You won’t have to wonder about the condition of your belongings when you open boxes and begin to unpack in your new home.
As you work through your inventory list, you will see the progress you are making in packing up your home. This helps to prevent a lot of last-minute packing in the day of or days leading up to your moving day and when your mover arrives, you should be ready to go.
While packing up your home, you may find that you need some help with packing. Do not fear—College HUNKS to the rescue! Our moving pros are available for additional services, including specialized packing.
